A friend came up to me one day, via Instant Messenger, and asked if I wanted to take up the task of creating this website for a person he knew, since he was bogged down. Being reluctant, I took the task of creating this little gig for a local DJ service, particularly ones found at weddings, receptions and the like. Pretty easy, had to learn a few things about ASP in the process, but eventually it all fell apart when the host decided to not many anything writeable, only readable. I brought this up with the host, and he basically said that I have to stuff things in a particular folder, and he has to manually make it writeable. That's stupid. He then gave me a lecture on spider-bots and how they can find stuff based on filenames. Duh. That's the point. Whatever. We eventually came up with an alternative solution, and things turned out fine in the end. I was actually paid for this too! Not much, but it's a start. Since this place is local, hopefully I can get referred to by anybody else interested.

Built for a message forum I frequent, NeoGAF, this online leaderboard for Microsoft's Xbox Live service shows a listing of who has the highest Gamerscore, and what percentage of the score consists off -- Retail games or Arcade games. Users enter their forum alias and their Gamertag, which gets inserted into a text document. From here, an external program built from another user "imports" it, and grabs info from Xbox.com based on what it is given. It then compiles a list in the program and churns out an XML document with all this data, and from there, re-uploads it back to the server to be displayed. It can be somewhat cumbersome as there have been hiccups along the way, but when it decides to work, it can work flawlessly.
